Storage of liquid fertiliser in on-farm facilities should be for short durations. Fertiliser solutions stored for extended periods, (such as overnight) increases the risk of sediment settling out in the bottom of tanks.

It is important to store liquid fertiliser in secure tanks to prevent vandalism and to reduce the risk of accidental spillage.

Recommended Tank Specifications;

• Tank materials should be non corrosive, non-porous, well maintained and have lockable inspection hatches,
  
  
• Located on level land, free of potential flooding and more than 40 meters away from waterways,
  
  
• Bunded to contain 110% of maximum storage capacity,
  
  
• Easily accessed by Sucrogen AgServices' contract delivery tankers away from overhead powerlines,
  
  
• Emergency procedures for spillage from tanks should be located in a dry place nearby, along with product MSDS sheets, and
  
  
• 2-3 cubic metres of sand be located nearby in the event of tank spillage or rupture, for clean up operations.

Finally, it is important to liaise with local council and the EPA for other licensing or regulatory requirements regarding the storage of liquid fertilisers on farm and for other general safety regulations regarding tanks, (such as confined space requirements).
